See you this summer!

Folks! Our new album Cedar on the Fire is all wrapped up and physical discs will be available at shows this summer. Also, look for some tracks from the collection on-line in the coming weeks.

We’ll be playing around Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast over the next few months; check out our current summer dates and watch for more shows popping up throughout the summer.

See ya in the sun!

New year, new album!

Hi there folks. Happy new year! We hope your 2015 is off to a solid start. We’re still coming down from a whirlwind adventure over the last few weeks; mainly making a brand new record! We met up in Kitchener, Ontario, to lay a bunch of new material on to one inch tape at the Duke of Erb Recording studio. We recorded almost entirely live off the floor using mainly vintage mics of various tones and assortments. We think this record is going to capture the most true and warm representation of our sound to date. We’re also really stoked on the new tunes, and collaborated on the writing more than ever before. It was an engaging, full-on process. We’re proud of how the material came together and are really looking forward to sharing it with you! Click here to check out a bunch of photos of the sessions on our Facebook Page.

After a wild week or so in the studio, we caught the Via Rail train Number 1 in Toronto to provide on-board entertainment to passengers all the way to Vancouver. The ride was beautiful through the snowy and wild landscape. Frozen and bright. Sublime and humbling. If you ever have a chance to cross the country on the train, we both highly recommend it. We’ve done it a few times now, and it never gets old. We live in a fascinating land full of interesting people and places. It’s a constant source of inspiration.

We arrived back on the super mild and foggy west coast riding high on a wave of seemingly never-ending music and lack of sleep. Just the way we love it.

We’re working hard on getting a summer schedule together that will bring us face to face with as many of you folks as possible. Please stay tuned, check back soon for summer dates, and new music!

Take good care now.

With love,

D & M

Blackwood 2014!

Hello friends!  We hope you’ve been well and enjoyed your holiday season, wherever you may be.  We recently got some great news: we’ve been offered some funding to create a new full-length album in 2014!  More details on that to come, so definitely stay tuned.

As you may or may not know, we’ve both been in different parts of the country for a last little bit.  We’re excited to be reunited very soon (January!) and are looking forward to working on a bunch of new material.  As always, our sound is evolving and growing and we’re really stoked to get back at it!  Look for some shows on Vancouver Island this winter and spring, and stay tuned down the line for new music and our summer schedule.

Thanks for the continual support, folks.  Cheers!

Things that are going on

Howdy folks!  We hope everyone had a solid summer.  It’s fall already!

Although the majority of our summer was spent apart due to multiple (some unexpected!) circumstances, we still had the opportunity to play a couple really great shows and work on some great projects.

In addition to a few awesome gigs, Dan also had the opportunity to begin working on an album of new solo tunes over the summer.  Click here for more information.

We’re also beginnning to think about embarking on our next recording project.  We’ll certainly keep you in the loop as that begins to materialize.  As always, here is where our previously recorded content lives.

Besides that, we’re (believe it or not) already looking ahead to some sweet opportunities next summer.  In the meantime, we’re hoping to find some chances to folk it up over the winter.  We are currently seperated by vast geography, but that’s never stopped us in the past, so stay tuned and thanks for checking in!

Hello, springtime!

Howdy friends,

Just a quick update:  we’re welcoming spring/early summer with open arms and are looking forward to some awesome summer adventures here at camp Blackwood.  Meg is currently up in north Ontario working hard planting trees and running from black flies, and Dan is roaming ’round south Ontario working on some recording projects and playing some solo gigs.  We’re reconvening mid July and got some good plans and fun shows in the works for August and September.  Stay tuned for those details.  See ya’ll soon!

Jarvis Street Sessions

Howdy folks!

Recently, we had a fun opportunity to work on an analog recording project. These 5 original songs were recorded live off the floor in an apartment on Jarvis Street in Toronto, ON.

PioneerCaptured by a few good mics on to a Pioneer RT-707 quarter inch reel-to-reel tape recorder, the result is a warm, true, analog representation of how we sound playing songs in a living room.  The sound represents the vibe of the session, which was very laid back, with most of the songs recorded in just a few takes.

We’re happy to offer this live, analog session as a free download, just follow the link!

Big thanks to the recording engineers, Brittany Amodeo and Kevin Jung, who were a pleasure to work with!

Spring Plans

Howdy friends,

Despite low temperatures and recent SNOW (gasp!) in KW, there is something fresh in the air.  We’ve had a few days here in southern Ontario where it certainly feels like Spring is just around the corner.  Over here at Camp Blackwood, we’re happily reflecting on a busy and productive Winter.  We played some really fun shows and had some great experiences, like the international Folk Alliance conference and the Winterfolk Festival in downtown Toronto.  However, we’re definitely looking forward to busking without numb fingers and soaking up some Spring sunshine!

We’ve got a bunch of awesome Spring plans a-brewin’, including a stop at one of our favourite KW spots, Cafe Pyrus with Montreal songster Corinna Rose and our pals, the fantastic Ever Lovin’ Jug Band, a little 3-day romp ’round Ontario with old friend and wonderful songwriter Richard Garvey, and plans to finally share the stage with KW buddies A Yellow Field.  All this and more!  Spring is coming, we hope you’ll join us for some fun!

Head on over to the ‘Shows’ page to keep up to date on all the deets.
